Great Harry team in the papers
John Ratcliff helped himself to three frames
Great Harry still sailing on course
Latest News 14th Aug (Pigs can fly)
Could we keep the winning form going to the end of the season and take the title? The answers was an emphatic YES from last nights performance!
Once the 'Who'd a thought it' team had been rounded up from neighbouring pubs the game started!! Some were a little worse for drink!!
First set a whitewash to Harry 5-0 with John almost producing a break & dish only a slight nudge on the black left it unpottable.
Second set saw the on-going rivalary between Pinkie and Lewis from 'Who'd a thought it'. I think Lewis might of modified the sheet to make sure they played each over! And both added a crisp £20 to make it a bit more tasty! Needless to say Pinkie doesn't lose much if there is some cash about!
A rare failing by John saw him pot the white when going for the black which eventaully lead to a game loss for him. So set 2 was 4-1 to Harry.
A brief interlude where the local slapp.. "freindly woman regular" had removed her undergamets and some guy was parading them around on his head..
Do we invite this sort of thing on our pool nights. Do other teams have to contend with this? Well back to the pool..
The continuous battery of Harry wins carried on in the set3 with Pinkie & Mop taking their third of the night. More wins from Mr Impeccable and Rocket closed to 4-0. By now they had given up the ghost and the last game was forfeited to us!
One game left and 2 points ahead of the Railway. The finishing line is in sight. Bring on the Eagle...
New 13th Aug (Terror Goes into Over-Time!)
Pinkie and Mop enter the last league KO of the season. Sudden Death! Which isn't an extreme pool sport where Van Damm finishes someone after a pool loss! It's a 1frame singles KO comp. Pinkie was unlucky to fall on the first hurdle with a good double to pot the black but lost the cue ball to a pocket in the process. Mop played and won the KO with a quick final game. Mop broke and the break split everything open and left a easy clearence to his opponent. George failed to finish this leaving Mop to 'mop up' his colours+black to take the crown!
News 8th Aug (League decider??)
A home match with our rivals the Railway club boys. At the start of the night the Harry dogs were 1 point ahead in the league standings, and us needing revenge for a poor display at Slade Green earlier in the season.
Hoping for no power cuts in fixture! The game was underway with Railway Club bringing a team of 9 players! to the Harry's 6.
Moppy took apart Mark Hill in the opening fixture with some good long potting. With Rocket producing a fighting performance but still losing, John putting in a solid win and Wobbly having a fight with one pocket and losing! (Ball actually jumped back out of it in one shot! ) This left decider man 'Glen the Impeccable' with the first set in his hands. With a less than impressive performance he took it away for a Harry set1 win.
Pinkie joined the action in the second and with possibly the game in his grasp a cut to middle caused his downfall. By somehow the white sqeezing through a pocket covered with balls. Tommy didn't look back and the game was Railways. This was the story of the second set with Jason from Railway having a fair amount of the run of the balls to take his versus Mop. With a Ryan loss and John and Glen wins, the second set was Railways 3-2. Glen was gifted his second after Paul C levaing a black over the hole!
All to play for the in last. Time was getting late but we were assured we could finish from the lovely Harry pub workers. And the food was top notch too.. No Guv'nor Dave tonight, a coincindence??
A great pink start to the last set with a solid game by Pinkie, he was snookered on the last black but pulled off a good escape and pot to take the game from Steve. John showed great form by producing his 3rd win of the night versus Alan.
2-0 up now needing 1 of the next three games to take the set.
The Wobbly took on the Paul C, a tight game with wobbly stuck on last ball. A missed escape let Paul C take the game easily 2-1
Up stepped Mr Impeccable, although his showing was more Mr Sh*te from his previous games, but as he mentioned in the night it's the result that counts!
Glen was in control of the game and got down to the black first but never really threaetened the win!! Phil got his chance cleared his colours missed postion on the black, this left a tough cut with white always heading towards the middle.. This is what it did! Leaving the black over the hole for Glen to clear up and take the win and possible the league title?? Time will tell..
Well played to Glen and John for 6 wins between them on the night!
Who'd a Thought it then the Eagle Tavern stand in the way of the title for the Harry dogs.. Woof woof!
News 25th June
A home match versus the Blue Anchor for the harry boys. Moppy was missing for the first set again! (disciplinary action could be on th cards! ).
1st set was a lost 3-2 with Pinkie having a very unfortunate in off after potting the black after a stunning clearence with John and Paul winning their games.
Moppy, Keith and Pinkie secured the second set, with Keith securing his first win under WR!
Thrid set stared off well with a win to Pinkie again. John had a 2 shots on his last ball and a black over the pocket, and failed to make it! That was the last we saw of John this night! Leat no snapped cue!
Up stepped moppy to the breach, he saw the clearence opp, went for it and missed position on the black. Missed the double, got snookered, DF played but Andy from the Blue anchor took it away in style.
Keith couldn't make it 2 for the night and lost and with Glen winning this meant 2-3 loss for the last set. And a 1-2 loss for the night.
Well played the Blue Anchor and a good bunch of guys to have a laugh with. Although taking pinkie's pink cue home as spoils was a little bit too far!!!
Going to be a close end season
News 24th June
Almost a full team turn out (Keith on hols) for the Pairs KO @ Rileys in Woolwich. Glens neck of the woods
Three Harry teams were entered... Only one got through the first round! Well done to John/Glen.. Although they spurned several chances to get though to the last 4!
Oh well an extra beer night out and a bit of practice was had!
News 10th July (A night of 2 fights)
Now in the final run for the summer league, the away game at the Bellegrove was going to be one of the tough ones.
With moppy being unfashionably late to the party, he missed the first 6 frames and a fist fight! Luckily the fight was not involving any players from either side! So all good fun for a nights entertainment..
This then lets me add another demotivation poster. One for Glen...
I digress so back to the pool. I missed the first set but it was a win to the Harry, secured with wins by John ,Paul and Glen.
Second set was a tight affair, John and Paul winning again then just needing pinkie to deliver.. Deliver he did!! with a shocking loss after spurning more chances than you could count on your fingers and toes!
Last frame was all Harry, as Pinkie was left on the sidelines and the rest of the team finished up with a 5-0. John winning his third of the night in a tight finish.
So a 2-1 win and 10-5 in frames. A dropped point but the finishing lines gets closer.. Bring on the Blue Anchor next..
3rd July (Harry smashes Bottle)
The Leather Bottle entertained the Great Harry pool team for our thursday night SLKPA encounter.
6 of us this time so we got to drop people who lost in each set. True to form Pinkie obliged us as we won 4-1 in the first set to let Posty in on the second set.
Posty posted his first win under WR at the start of the second set. We would of run out 5-0 in the second set, but a piece of luck led to a good finish in the last to leave the impeccable Glen with a loss.
And we finally got our wish of a 5-0 in the last set, as the Leather bottle had given up the ghost by then. A good all round Harry performance with a 3-0, 13-2 win. We could of closed out a few games quicker, and need to be on top form for the upcoming games.
If you have got this far you must be a glutten for punishment or very very bored... But if you want more. It continues here :-
